Darren Travis Selected as Deputy Network Director of the VA Rocky Mountain Network

GLENDALE, COLO. – The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced today the selection of Mr. Darren Travis, MHA, VHA-CM, as Deputy Network Director Director (DND), VA Rocky Mountain Network (Veterans Integrated Service Network [VISN] 19). He is responsible for helping to oversee VISN 19, a system with 20,000 employees that serves nearly 1,000,000 eligible Veterans at eight health care systems, and more than 100 additional sites of care.

“Mr. Travis brings a robust background in health care leadership and VA health care,” said Sunaina Kumar-Giebel, Director of the VA Rocky Mountain Network. “We are excited for the innovation and dedication he will bring to VISN 19 and the impact he will have on the Veterans we are honored to serve, employees, and volunteers.

Mr. Travis will serve as the chief operating officer (COO) and fulltime member of the senior management team, working daily with other executives to develop and implement long- and short-range policies in a highly complex health care delivery system. He is responsible for the operational management of VISN 19 and has full line decision-making authority under the Network Director.

Prior to joining VISN 19, Mr. Travis served as the Associate Director for the Alexandria VA Health Care System in Louisiana from December 2020 until January 2024.

Mr. Travis also worked for the South-Central VA Healthcare Network (VISN 16) as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Network Director. Prior to his work for VISN 16, Mr. Travis served as the Deputy Director for the VHA Office of Medical Staff Affairs.

He also served as the Acting Assistant Director at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center (Gainesville, Florida), the Acting Associate Director at the Veteran Health Care System of the Ozarks (Fayetteville, Arkansas) and the Acting Associate Medical Center Director at the Gulf Coast VA Health Care System.
